just heard about these guys nd apparently they are good for small tanks as they 'don't grow as big as the other plecos...' is this true, hav found info saying that they grow to about 4-5 inches??? thanks very much.

Hi,
The ones most commonly found in shops grow 4-5 inches but there are some which grow 8 inches but they are more rare and tend to cost loads. http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/loric...istru/190_F.PHP this is one of the rarer ones. You could have a pair in your tank so long as it was a male and female or 2 females. and so long as you rehome the common plec which will soon out grow your tank commons grow 28-24 inches.

Hi, with bristlenoses, is it really hard to sex them if they are still juveniles? I once tried asking the LFS staff to help with sexing them and they said its really hard until they are mature. By juvenile, I mean bristlenoses that are 2"

at 2" they are easy to sex - males will have bristle going up the snout (probubly just little stumps at 2") females will have not at all or only little stumps round the lip ;)

Thanks smithrc, I think either I made a mistake in estimating their size or they must all be females because in the tank full of bristle noses, non of them had bristles on their snouts!

If the bristle noses were smaller, say 1", would the bristles still be there?
