Hi, I am not sure if this is a problem or not. I have a Bristlenose Plec which I bought two weeks ago. It has settled in well and is eating food and algae. It has suddenly started making sudden dives(it goes upwards but can't think of a better word) up to the surface and back down again. It only does it a couple of times a day. It is in a community tank with no aggressive fish and the water is fine.Any ideas welcome. :) Oh, and the tank has been running since last October.

normal behaviour.

watch it one evening - if it does it too often you might need to increase the surface movement to get more air in the water.

Ok. Thanks for reply. I have an internal filter and changed one sponge, carbon filter and the white filter wool yesterday when I did a water change so the current is strong. :) Just read your tank listings, guess you know a lot about Bristlenose Plecs !

getting there :)

we've just rehomed the plecs from tank 2

more plans up my sleave (involving a 350l tank and a 4ft marine tank)

thanks :)

needs updating soon (moved house 2 weeks ago)

but i may as well wait until the tank plans come together (or not)

My sailfin used to do this all the time when he was small. Doesn't do it anymore but it is perfectly normal. :)

My commons wack the lid open on a regular basis. I've seen them clock themselves on the crossbar. Ouch!

Russ,

When I'm settled into the house in Derby and got the tanks back up and running, I may be after some prime BN specimens ;) ;)

350L tank hey..... how'd you managed to get that one past the missus ?!? Not as if you could miss it or anything !! ;) lol

My cories do that all the time. I'm sure they must be brain damaged by now!
