Hi i bought a pair of Bristlenoses a couple of months ago , they are not like common brown ones though they are bred from either f1 or f2 generation parents. and i lost the male and now have the female .

The male i had at huge bristles compared other ones i own and the female has a head of bristles to but only half the length of the male whic is now dead.

The female was left in the 5 foot tank on her own then i bought an adult trio of 1 male and 2 females, the original female kept harrasssing the females so had to meve her.

then i put her in another tank then had to mover again.

then i had her in with small golden bn, lemon tetras and 3 large sterbai corys. she kept chasing the small golden bn attaching and chasing the sterbais and even chasing the lemon tetras. which i think is mad as they tetras are middwelling fish and they shouldnt even come into contact with her.

Can anyone help in what to do and why this is happening, i dont understand this usually bn are fine. This female is the best looking one i have as well markings are fantastic.
thanks

your females a MALE thats why their fighting

i did think that but whn i had a pair of them together their was a huge difference in bristles between male and female these were 2 from the same brood and the one in question didnt fight once with the male i had, and they were the same size and the male had a head full of large bristles, compared to this one?

any other ways of determing male or female?

if their common b/ns females dont have bristles
it sounds like a sud dominate male
are the bristles going up the center of the face if so its male
some different sp of b/ns females only get small bristles around the mouth and not up the face

have you a pic of it
it does sound like a male hes thinks the tank is his
their very territorial

Mess up his territory. Rearrange everything. Sometimes this will get them outside of their comfort zone and make them a little less territorial. But ones he gets settled in again the same thing might happen.

If he is that big of a problem I would find him a new home.
