The nursery said we can have two of their baby bristlenose catfish. We are nearly but not quite at the end of cycling the tank.

Just done readings and they are
Ammonia - 0.6
Nitrit - 0.6
Nitrate - 15-20ish

If I do a water change before I go and get them, will the cycle be completed enough for them?
Also will they keep my tank free of algae?

Can I get them today??? At 3pm???

How long has the tank been cycling?
I personally wouldn't advice the baby bristlenoses, bristlenoses are reletavely hardy fish when adults but like many other fish's fry, are not so when very young and still developing and you would run a large risk of them dying in a cycling tank- at best they would be very stressed.

;)
Ok, I shall just get some of their water instead, to test, and see what they are living in now.

It's not urgent, I'm just impatient of course. It's the nursery schools' fishtank, so we are there all the time. Theirs have been breeding like crazy and their tank is getting overcrowded.
It will probably do the kids good to learn that they have to wait for conditions to be right for animals. (and me).

:D
Thank you for the right advice. Their tank was

ammonia - trace
Nitrite - 0.1
Nitrate - 10
PH - 8.0 (interestingly because they have been breeding furiously)

I shall wait until my readings are the same.
