I have two juvi bristlenoses around an inch and a half long now, had one for approx 3 months the other around a month, they were fine when first introduced together but now the one that was in the tank first is being very aggressive to the other one, if the other one so much as comes within a few inches of the aggressive one it is immediately chased away, they used to eat quite happily together and swim together but now they stay on opposite ends of the tanks, they are too young to sex yet but I was hoping for a pair, does this type of behaviour mean they are unlikely to be a pair or is it quite normal? this is the first set of bristlenoses I have ever kept so unsure on what to expect! thanks for any help :good:

not something I've come across so suppose I can only ask questions.

how big is your tank?
is there any bogwood, how much?
are they both males?

I have an aquarium full of juvenile bn's (plus 3 adults) and have seen seen no signs of aggression with any of them. They are ranging from several months old down to few weeks old.

My original bn's were a pair of long fins, plus a female albino standard bn. None of these have ever had a problem with each other and were all in separate tanks when I first purchased them.

Good luck with your guys. Sorry I can't help.

Hi, the tank is about 90 litres, with plenty of bogwood (one large central piece and smaller pieces dotted around)
I have noticed the aggression seems to be mainly at feeding times and is not only directed at the other bristlenose but any other fish that comes within range ( I have 4 female bettas in the same tank )
I have no idea if they are male or female bristlenoses as they are still too small unless anyone can sex them when they are an inch and a half? I can post pics if it helps but neither are showing bristles and I don't know if there are any other distinguishing factors? it just seems like the more mature this fish gets the more aggressive it is! thanks for the responses peeps ;)

I have a colony of 5 in my 125L tank and they do sometimes have a little battle with each other, its mainly my females though, my males are great with each other as thier caves are at opposite ends of the tank and they hardly leave them....

My females have been like this for a couple of weeks but seem to be settling down now, hopefully yours will too.

that is a little odd i have 2 juvis in one of my tanks and they play fight a little at times in my other tank i have an adult with a juvi and they are together 24/7
