thats not normal surely? but every now and then he'll wait for the bloodworm to fall then eat it!

Completely normal, so don't worry about it. Ancistrus are omnivorous, and alongside algae they will eat insect larvae, carrion, decaying vegetation, and general aquatic detritus. All that said, the bulk of its diet should be green foods of one sort or another. Meaty foods are best used only as a treat.

Cheers, Neale

Thats all right then! the majority of the time hes sucking around or on his algae wafers/plec tablets. The bloodworm is for the clown loach and other fish he just seems to take over

I didnt realise they would eat meat, i thought they were all veggies

As Neale pointed out, bloodworm should only be fed to your BN as a treat every now and again. As it is high in protein, it can cause problems for your Pleco. Aside from algae wafers, try feeding him courgette, cucumber, potato etc.

I feed mine blood worms and other "meaty" foods every few weeks or so. They largely eat wafers and vegetables but don't mind the insects either.

Frozen Daphnia seems quite popular with mine

Potato? never considered that before...do your plecs get on well with it?

I tried carrot a couple times but mine weren't impressed with it.

I used to own a huge common pleco who would grab the cube of bloodworm as soon as it entered the tank, and proceed to 'float' around using his tail as a balance until the whole cube was consumed. I wonder if fish get 'brain freeze'??

My albino bristlenose eats anything he can get hold of before my loaches get there :) . I should have called him Pop-eye as he loves his spinach!

mine turns his nose up at cucumber and lettuce :(
only managed to get him to eat algae wafers... and I HATE using them :(
