In my time ive probably had around 120 adult 'common' BN's and i would say less than 10 have ever gotten above 6 inches but this was only a little above.

There are species of BN which can get to 8 inches, maybe these members were talking about them instead?.

do you know wat species it was?

Off the top of my head i can think of 2 which could potentially get to 8 inches, L183 and L182, both stunning plecs but i favour the L183 out of all the ancistrus species :)

Yep, L182 are very big fish - I bought a one inch L182 sold as a common bristlenose when I first started out fishkeeping over a year ago - and now at about 18months old, he is bigger than an adult common BN!
