when the bristle nose is out in daylight i try and creep up oin him but he scutters to his bits of wood and hides

is this normal for them to scuttle away

Most plecs are shy, mine got used to me now, and he stays out most of the time, even sucks on the glass when i'm around, just let him get used to you.

I agree, plecs are usually shy in new tanks. Give him/her time to settle in, its perfectly normal. Also check out the activity after lights out, you should see a difference (if you're quiet  )

my adults are used to me now but my juvinile still goes and hides in her rock every time i go near
