i have now tried once or twice to raise brine shrimp for my molly fry without success, i believe i have done whats required but must be missing something.

i have setup a 2l coke bottle along with an empty 15l tank, both have an air feed, the tank is heated to 80f and the both are under 50w lamps which generate decent heat from the low height.

i have 1l of de-chloronated water in the bottle and 6l in the tank.

the bottle has 2 table spoons of tonic salt, the tank has 8 tablespoons of common table salt from asda.

I have added 1ml of "Waterlife Artemia Shelless" to each.

The tank so far has been going for 48 hours with still no signs of any movement, the bottle 24 hours with no signs.

Am i doing something wrong or does anyone have any tips to shorten the likely hatching time.

My plan is to hatch them out, move them to the 15l tank and let them grown for a week or so to feed to my 3 week old fry and my tank of assorted molly adults, silver sharks and loaches.

I need to know once they have hatched will they be ok, will they need the heat and airation, and will the interpet liquifry 2 be ok to feed them on???

i believe that BBS do need heated water, but i would wait for more replies

the way I do brinshrimp at room temp of 68f -72f 2 table spoons of of cokking salt. table salt is not good ) some BBS will start to hatch in 24 hours and will all hatch out by 48 hours I use water straight from tap I do not add de-chloronater to BBS water or use lamps I always get a very high hatch rate . ok well this might sound silly but will there be a noticable difference once they are hatched, i have the shelless so i wont get the layer of eggs.

well i have setup 2 bottles this morning after 72 hours of nothing in the ones i already had.

followed the instructions on the salt box, which says 6 tea spoons per 5 litres which i worked down to 1.5 spoons for my 1 litre jug, set up 1 with dechlorinated and 1 ordinary tap water, added 1ml of my shelless solution and setup both on my sunny window sill with an airstone.

only thing i can conclude is when following the instructions on the egg bottle i added 2 table spoons of my tonic salt instead of 1.5 teaspoons, the excess salt may have killed the eggs off, if that is possible.

i have the shelless so i wont get the layer of eggs.

Are you sure these are the ones for hatching? Some shell-less brineshrimp eggs are for straight feeding and not for hatching

I think so, they are decapsulated brine shrimp eggs, and the directions on the back give the ideal water and salt levels which i would imagine you didnt need for ones you dont hatch.

They are Waterlife Artemia Shelless so i think they are the right kind, if not could you recommend a shelless hatchable variety.

Sorry, I have not used decapsulated brine shrimp eggs myself so can't really recommed any to you. I guess you should give it a little longer to see if any hatching happens. Regards to the salt level, I use 2 tablespoon cooking salt per litre and at room temperature (cooler temp. takes a little longer).

http://www.ta-aquaculture.co.uk/ do both shelled and decapsulated brineshrimp eggs.
