Breeding

Hi i want to start to breed fish and i was thinking of trying Convict Cichlids. I already am well aware they are very aggressive parrents when they have fry or eggs ,but what i am not sure is are they agressive when they do not have young?
Also what other fish would go good with a breeding pair by this i mean like cleaning fish (bottom feeders and Aleage eatters) Also how big do they have to be in order to breed or when are they mature? And how do u tell male from female?

Yea they aren't as bad but they are still little terrors. What size tank do you have?

I don't recommend any other fish or catfish in a tank with a pair of breeding cons unless you get at least a 75g and sometimes that isn't big enough to stop them from harrassing the others. It might be big enough for them to not kill anything else tho, but, imo, a 75g with just a pair of breeding cons isn't too exciting and I have had cons kill other fish in a 75g.

Also how big do they have to be in order to breed or when are they mature? And how do u tell male from female?

I've had cons breed at 1 1/2" before.

convicts are the easiest things to breed and when they do they have quite a few babies my girlfriends dad has 500 little babies all in dif tanks so make sure u have a separate tank

I have two convicts but they are not with any other fish as they are just too aggressive and rip other fishs tails. Both the 1 inch convicts want the 10 gallon all to themselves...lousy, space snatching water hoggers...
