Breeding Tiger Barbs

Until recently, an avid cold water aquarium enthusiast (until a friend got a rather large pond) so after something out of “born free”, I have decided to return to my childhood and once again keep tropical fish.

I’ve always had an interest in Tiger Barbs, and went hot foot down to an excellent local aquarium place called QSS in Bradford (very good if you are looking for Koi etc) and purchased ten young tiger barbs.

I haven’t stocked the tank with anything else yet and was wondering if it were possible to breed these? What is involved, what equipment do I need etc?

Currently the tank I have set-up is

36”x 24”x 12”
Gro-Lux lighting
Two Fluval 4 Filters
Tank Temp 27deg

If anyone could help me out, and/or point me to where I can get detailed breeding information from, it would be appreciated.

hmm, asuming ur tank is already cycled, and these are younger tiger barbs, u might haveta wait a while, for them to mature, and who knows, they just might be all male or all female, but that's highly unlikely because, well, it just is.

I also love tiger barbs, when i bought my first 4 i got large ones nand seemd to stop growing agter a few months. i guess this means they're mature. and 2 of them got a little fat (i think these are the females) but they're not bloated if im right i have 2 males and e females. but i've never thought of breeding them... sorry but i've never seen anything about breeding tigerbarbs.

Need more factual information about breeding conditions etc

I can't say I've heard anyone on here talk about breeding their Tiger Barbs before. If you do, and you're successful, you'll definitely have to share that experience with us.

I am going to have a real try, based upon the artical published on the link above. The barbs are only smalll just now and will take probably a month or two before they are mature, but it will give me time to get ready.

I want to see that wonderful sight 30+ small tiger barbs shoaling together, produced in-house!
