I have been given a 60cm X 30cm X 30cm tank approx 14 us gallons (54 Litres) and am, just wondering whether it will be big enough to house my breeding pair of BN's ? At present I house them in my main tank and fish the babies out that survive and put them into a 7 us gallon tank but think that there would be more babies surviving if they were in their own tank from the start.

Any advice on this would be much appreciated. :good:

That would be fine for the pair, however once the babies reach any kind of size I would at least move most of them into another tank as that would be a lot of poo and alot of fish for that tank to cope with.

Make sure you over filter the tank(s) too.

slap a good filter on there - (eg over filter a lot) and you'll be fine - we had a trio breeding in the same size tank... :)

If you want to keep the bn in the main tank but save most of the fry, it isn't hard to do. When you have a spawn, monitor the hatching and fry development in the cave. When the yolk sacs are just about gone, put a net over the cave mouth and move the entire thing- with fry and even dad inside to a growout tank. You will discover the fry will be out in the next few days and you can then return the cave and dad to the main tank.
