Hi All,

I was thinking of having a go at breeding snails, Apple Snails in particular. Can anyone point me in the direction of some good reading material before I start anything I might regret or do completely wrong.

Thanks,

Rich :)

Breeding snails is pretty easy. I hate snails becuase one came in on a plant and overtook my tank. I would get a bucket put items with algea in it and maybe some lettuce because i belive they eat that and they should breed by themselves. Or you could just put like 4 or 5 in your tank and they will take care of themselves.
:D

This link contains and excellent article on apple snail breeding and keeping :) ;

As the article notes, because apple snails lay their eggs above water, you must have at least a couple of inches of hard surface above the water line for the eggs to be laid on- my apple snails laid their eggs mostly on the tank glass, although there were a couple of occasions where they laid their eggs on wires coming out of the filter in the tank.
The snails will only lay eggs if they are fed a wide range of foods and very heartily, as laying eggs takes a lkot out of them, they will only do it if they are been fed well and a lot. The tank temp must also be good- my apple snails mainly laid when the tank temp was between 26 and 28 degrees.
