Breeding.. Second Attempt!

Hey,

I dont know if i mentioned it on here, but my first attempt at breeding my bettas went horribly wrong and i now only have one little fry left though he is doing very well

Anyway, i thought i'd try the pair again to see if i have a bit more success! So, they were put in the tank yesterday. After about 24 hours the male had made himself a nice bubblenest and the female was ready to be let out and a few hours after that we had eggs!

Excuse the slight mingingness of this picture! I thought it was quite good though as you can actually see the eggs falling out of the female!! Maybe a bit too graphic betta porn?

And here's dad looking after his nest full of eggs!

Im going to try leave dad in for about a week after the fry start swimming. I thought a different method might bring better results!

He does look very purple, i think he's going more purple as he's getting older He is more black than purple really though, i think the flash just brings that out

sorry to hear the first attempt went wrong, lets hpe this one goes better, and nothing wrong with leaving him in but just dont panic if you see what you think is him eating the fry he will move them around and make sure you feed him as normal with blood worms......he will not be tempted to have a snack that way......... kep us posted

I think you better left the daddy to help you to takecare of the babies this time. Don't take him out.
Besides, you feed the babies too much and you kill them.
There is one lady at bettysplender was doing my method for experiment. She always kills all her babies. After she did this method, She has the best success in her spawn for 40 babies. Anyway, she told me that the pair is not a top pair. DUH!

Thanks Yeevia - I will try it and hope it works better this time! It was strange with the last ones, i lost all but one overnight Im not sure what happened. This one is a very good dad though so im sure he'll take care of his babies well!

daudy_dojo - You're in Texas aren't you? Unless you move to England you'll have to find a purple betta over there Im not sure i'd be able to ship them around the UK, i dont think i'd risk shipping them to another country. But i'll post pics!

Good luck with this spawn!

I had a similar experience recently, spawned my MGHM and had 100+ fry, and only have 2 left now Had a huge ammonia spike which I think killed most of them which I only noticed when dad started looking ill as I'd left him in with them.
