Well, my friend wants me to breed her plakat couple while she was on vacation so they would be ready when she came back. I didn't really want to but she insisted. So.. I've got it all set up, 25 gallon tank, filter, heater, live plants, blah blah, etc. She's now in the chimney glass. The males flaring and swimming around and what-not. I was just wondering how long it takes for him to go off to the cup and almond leaf and start building the nest?

Well, no one does know. Every male is different and sometimes it takes a special something to trigger them into spawning. It can take anywhere from a couple hours to over a week for a male to build. There are dozens and dozens of spawn logs kept by members right here in this forum. Perhaps read thru and see what everyone else has done. Right off the bat I can recommend checking the temp, doing a small change, feeding and of course the ever popular patience.

You could always pray for rain ;)

You didn't have to use an almond leaf but anyway, a cold front will have them spawning in no time but remember to let the male build the nest a bit before you release the female and don't worry if he bites her a little, it's a natural way for him to show that he is strong and has good genes. Check the bubble nest every few hours and take the female out if they dont spawn after 10 days(It normally takes two days to a week for them to spawn).
