Hey there everyone!

I have a 40 Litre aquarium set up as a "fry tank". It contains baby swordtails, a breeding group of guppies and I have just moved my family of bristlenoses in also (male/female pair, and 19 new little babies). I have 2 pygmy cory's and plan to get another 6 in early january, do you think these numbers would be enough for a breeding group? Id love some advice on how to breed these neat little fish. I have done some research and have replaced my gravel with fine black sand as the substrate, added some java fern, a couple of bits of drift wood and a rock ornament for hiding, a ferny plant and another unknown bushy plant. Does this sound suitable? I also have a breeding ball which fry can hide in which I plan to put in also.

When I add the pygmy corys I will remove the adult bristlenoses to my main tank and leave the babies(was concerned for their survival in my main tank). Will the bristlenoses eat pygmy cory eggs if they breed and will the baby bristlenoses be safe in this set-up with the pygmy corys, or vice-versa? Originally the pygmy corys were going to be the only bottom fish in the tank, until my bristlenoses bred and disrupted my plans haha.

Any advice would be muchly appreciated, and I can also post a pic of my aquarium if that helps? Some of my research said that a 40 litre would be suitable, what doe everyone else think?

Thanks :D

Hi Wolfklaw :)

40 liters is just about 10 gallons. You will need a much bigger tank to raise the BN fry. Most fish will try to eat the cory eggs if they find them and even young guppy fry will attack newly hatched cory fry.

Take a look at this article. It will give you an idea about how to raise cory fry.

Hey :)

I have a 75l/ almost 20gallon tank that I was thinking of putting the baby bristlenoses back into once they have grown a bit bigger? Would this be more suitable? There is so much conflicting info on the internet haha. At the moment they are just in there so they dont become brucey the sharks dinner XD

Perhaps I will just get a group of pygmy corys, say another 4 which would make a group of 6? And not worry about trying to breed them for now. Im moving into a new flat in January and am only allowed the two tanks I have. Since I wont be able to get snother tank until I have finished uni, it may be better to hold off trying to breed these fish until I am able to get another tank to put the fry into.

thanks for your advice.
