I love animals and fish are no exeption to this. I was thinking about breeding fish and was looking for some help. I have 2x 250l tanks that i can use as starter tanks, i was considering angel fish; they sale for alot when at specimen size however, I would really appreciate some help. Can i breed fish as a profitable hobbie, WHAT FISH SHOULD I BREED ? :D

LOL!

To make money from it then you need to pick a rarer fish. Angels are sometimes difficult to breed, and to be honest, most LFS's are full of them.

As a hobby maybe I guess.

First you need to find out what will sell, and who will buy them from you. Then you need the equipment, setup and expertise. For example convict cichlids are easy to breed but I don't think any LFS would take them. Discus? But again most hobbyist will only buy from reputable breeder. A lot of hassle to be honest, but if it is a hobby then I guess it's ok.

Reverse engineer it. See what sells consistently. See if there is a shortage in the market of what species sell consistently. Aim for breeding that species.

Buy used tanks & gear, build as much as you can yourself, a breeding setup that is run with making money in mind is no show tank setup. Aim for selling a quality product & making a name for yourself before profit. You may see profits in time.

thankyou very much my friend :)

I wouldn't say there would be much profit after you've covered what you've spent/still spending.

I think we have all wanted to be breeders at some stage and whilst it does look a promising ammount of cash you'll get in return I cannot see it myself. Extra tanks means more money going out, more fish means more fish food. If your wanting to grow them out yourself you'll also need bigger tanks and although you will get more money for them at a bigger size you will also spend more money getting them to that size.

For the likes or livebearers I really don't know how they make a profit. A fish that often breeds but its fry sell to the end user for around £2. Whilst all the money, time and effort, packaging, transportation and everything else that all costs money I believe would outweigh that £2 by far.

Sorry, I went off on one.

In answer to your question, you'll maybe make money out of it, I doubt I would though.
