Hi there,

I got this blue couloured Betta for my B-day. Named him Nelson. Nelsons what you consider a very lucky fella. He's got a harem of female fighters with him...well 3  . I have tried to mate him with a white female fighter. I find her bashed up, damages on both side of her tummy, so I had to take her out. Nelson was left alone for a few days until he rebuilds his bubble nest. I put another red female fighter and this time watched them. He flared and circle the female. She goes in his foam cup where the nest is and checks it out several time. Then all of sudden Nelson just rammed himself, head on towards the female's tummy several times. He starts to attack her that way, even though she is in her submissive stance of head down tails up. I just dont get it. I took the red female fighter out as I wouldnt want him to inflict more damages like he did with the white one. The females both seem keen to mate. Sooo..basically I come to the conclusion that Nelson just simply doesnt know how to "do it". What happend to the embracing the female ritual that normal siamese fighters have?
Another problem also is that Nelson doesnt know how to make a proper nest!! Im talking about just approximately 30 bubbles!! does anyone know if anything is wrong with him? Would it be old age maybe??
Anyways I put him in a smaller tank, all alone by himself in detention for misbehaving :p

Well,it's obvious that he has his wires crossed somewhere. Maybe he never heard of the embrace and he's trying a new method to get those eggs  Sorry :*) I know it's not funny but I guess he's a lost cause :dunno:

are you putting your females in with your males without slowly introducing them first? perhapse get a 1 liter bottle, put holes throughout it and place that (weighted down with rocks) into the male's tank. Put the female in the bottle so she can see him, they can get eachothers scent, get used to each other for a few days THEN release her in with him.

also, have you already found homes for the babies?

Agreed, I didn't want to come off as hardcore....I let the members do that :shifty:
But you should only keep them together for spawning, don't let them live together. And a home for the babies is one of the most important parts.
