I am looking to breed and thought that plecos would be a good challenge. I am not an expert so would like advice on which ones to try first.

ie which are easiest.
I am looking for a small fish, small enough to fit in a 120L tank and also one that will give satisfying results, the tank will be specially set up to house only the catfish.

So basicly my questions are:

What fish should I start with?
How do I set up the tank to accomodate the fishs?
and also
Where can I get good Info on catfish (breeding and keeping)

thanks

Colonel

Bristlenose Plecs are probably one of the best ones to breed, although once they start, there's no stopping them!
Make sure you have somewhere to sell the fry onto or you'll become inundated before you know it.
This site is probably one of the best for info on Plecs and breeding. :good:

Stang, dont take this the wrong way cos im not having a dig at all....

Why not read some of the info and write it here or copy and paste it, this way.........

1. the info is on this forum, also good for other members to read.
2, You dont have to direct members off the site to other sites.
3. The member (new or old) will feel they can keep coming back for the info they need and feel helped..
4. dont make you look lazy

For a bristlenose, what kind of tank size am I looking at?
thanks for the help so far guys!

anything from 60L + ;)

120L will be great as you'll be able to leave teh fry in there to grow up too :)

No offence taken...;)
I value members opinions and experiences on here greatly but I do find Planetcatfish to be great for all sorts of info.
Being such a big Plec lover, that site is like a bible to me!
I do, however, encourage members to listen to people who have experience to ensure all goes well. I don't find many sites that have great info but I do love the PC site. It is handy for people to have a browse through if they haven't the time to wait for people to post replies. :good:

So is the basic setup, fast flowing water, bogwood, plants, flowerpots and lots of oxygen? ph7 okay?

I would be interested in keeping 10 pearl danios in the breeding tank to add some intereset, will the plecs mind and would results be better without other fish?

thanks for the help so far it has been very helpful

Regards

Sounds good to me!
Flowerpots are fine but slate caves are quite effective as well. Smithrc used to make them, not sure if he still does but they make great little caves and even better spawning sites.
Danios will be fine in the tank as will most community fish. With BN, once they start breeding, there's not much stopping them!
