Hi all,can someone give me a list of what plec's are fairly easy to breed.i know about bn plec's but want something with maybe more colour.
I love golden nugget plec's :good: :D

well that opens up all relms of posibilities :) :)

next factor would be price... most "fancy" plecs will cost £25-30 each and your going to want to get a group of 5 to make sure you get a mixes of sexes...

yes, i can get things like golden nuggets for aroundd 15 pounds each.Would get a group so i can be sure to get a pair.Anything you have in mind and any info on them?

OK... as a step up from common BN's any of the other ancisrtus species would be a good step L183's (you wont find true ones at the moment) or L182 (a smaller versions of these quite often being sold as L183's)

Or changing species I'd look into LDA01's L333's L134's L260's...

If the species tank was bigger I'd like to have a shot at L075's and L114s :) :)

L134's are good option, and one of the nicest looking plecs :D

I'm just in the process of setting up a breeding colony, I've already got 1 mature male and 5 juveniles, and I'm just arranging the purchase of another 3 mature fish :D

Gold Nuggets will be too big for that size tank. The smallest Gold Nugget (L177) reaches over 7" and they can be territorial so keeping a group of 5 in a 3ft would be pushing it!

Good point Jennifer
There is also very little info about successful breeding of any of them out there.
(don't you find it spooky when someone uses your real name on a forum - ok - just me then... )

On a side note - If you have seen the piccys of L183's and do fancy trying them - Pier Aquatics has just got a LOAD in (real ones) - about 120 from what I've heard - about 4" and only £9.50!

I'll be getting a few :) - not sure where they will be calling home yet though...

thanks guys,Yes did read up on golden nuggets being hard to breed/not many people have managed to.Unfortunatly money is stopping me getting some plec's buttt my dad said he will take me to some fish shops and pick a nice plec. Was going to get a golden nugget for my 4ftfemale betta tank but might go for something different.Going to look out for some l183's.What other plec's should i look out for? im no good with the 'L' numbers lol and the shops round here call them like bristlenose plec etc.its strange but the place i thought would have the worst selection of fish would have some of the nicest discus and plec's.And its a pet shop lol.

bn dont have an l number to speak they called ancistrus sp3 but when you see a plec without an l number get the name that it has and go on planet catfish and look up common names and then relate the pic to the fish in the shop

if its the same plec thats for sale look up some info on buyiong them and all will be good

Cheers Dane
