I was wondering if i should breed my panda corys. I have 6 -soon to be 8 unless i start breeding then i will keep 2 xD- in a 90L tank but have a 40L tank aswell that i could use if needed- if thats not big enough i will wait to save to get another one that is a better size, but would love if that is good enough size-

My LFS said that if i do, he would sell them for me.

SOOOO my question is...... how would i do it :look:

thanks :)

A good start would be to read all the information on this forum (there is LOTS about breeding) and then ask more specific questions.

k i did a little reading and found out what i think i need to do-

Things i need for tank-
-Small sponge filter
-sand
-plants
-Good airstone for near the eggs so they don't get any fungus on them.

Things to do-
-Put thin layer of sand in tank
-Add some plants for refuge for the the fry when they hatch
-Put the corys in the 40L until they lay the eggs then take them out- how many would be alright to go into a 40L though?
-Wait?

To get them to spawn in the first place :p-
-Cold water changes- how much at a time?
-feed blood worm.

My other questions are-
-Anything else i need to do?
-How long does it take for the eggs to hatch?

Firstly, identify if you have males and females or you could be in for a long wait ;)

haha i will check in the morning :D its 1:24 am here so i think i should go to bed :p
thank you heaps and i will hopefully talk to you tomorrow

K i checked and i think there are atleast 2 females and 3 males- might be another female there but was hiding from me -_-

daylight should be enough, i would feed them bloodworm every night for a week say from monday to friday to "condition them" then change 20 litres of water on the Friday night, use cold dechlorinated water to replace it, it simulates rain fall and a change in the weather. On the Saturday morning or afternoon they might spawn for you.

To be honest, you could try it in your 90 litre, and just fish out the eggs with your finger and place them on the glass in the 40 litre, makes it less stressful for the fish.

if i did do it in the 40L - i probably won't but just for future reference- how many corys could go in there?

thanks :)

for fry, 40 litres is a fair amount of space and its quite easy to do a 50% daily water change on a tank that size, which you do need to do with fry.

depending on how many fry you are trying to grow out, i would imagine it would be ok for about 2-3 months, then you would need to move some over to the 90 litre to free up some space.

But fully grown...i personally wouldnt keep any fish in 40 litres of water unless they were micro fish, like galaxy rasboras and such.

I've done a few vids of my bronze fry in a 20 litre fry tank, its in a thread here somewhere.

Here

Nawwww your cory fry are so cute :D
Would you recomend keeping them in the 90L to try and spawn them?
If so, would the other fish be alright with the cold water changes- i have 15 neons and 1 flame dwarf gourami.

thanks :)

I cant say they will be ok with 100% certainty and i would only attempt to bring on a spawn once every month using the above method.
