Hi,

I have 5 neon tetra in my community tank. By the size & shape of them I would say there were 2 males & 3 females.

Two of the females are very fat and one has a 'lump' on her belly & and seems 'bumpy' (these appear to be bright silver) in that region.

Is this a sign she is about to drop eggs? I don't have a spare tank (but with a seperator could divide either the 36" cory tank or one on my fry 18" tanks to house them temporary). I would put plenty of cobomba in to catch/protect the eggs.

I know if I leave them in the community tank either the clown loach or the rainbow sucking loach (r-bow cae) will get them if the others don't get there first.

I was not intending to breed them but if it happens I would like to save some to increase the group to 10.

Well now.

I came down this morning only to be greeted by a dead neon. It was one of the fatter one that may have been due to spawn. All were fit as a fiddle 8 hrs earlier so don't know what happened.

Could it be it was 'got at' by the clown loach (new to tank) or the rainbow cae (had for a while) although there was no sign of major injury (looked a bit 'ragged' (but that may have happened after death).

im not sure that your neons have sprawned ... i think they have an internal infection or dropsy or some sort of sickness...
