Breeding Green Barbs.

try increasing the temperature just a little..or feeding live foods would pretty much trigger spawning or w/e....u have to be kinda careful because the parents will eat the eggs...u can maybe get some spawning grass , but when after spawning, it's best to remove the parents and like isolate them...i unno if u have experienced this but u can get this fish called Bitterling who like basicly is like a sheild for the eggs and like defends them...

Fisrt thing to note is that most barbs are better off kept in larger groups. How many depends on what "Green Barb" you have. There are a couple of quite different fish that get that common name.

If you have the "Green Barb" that is a dark Tiger Barb, you should really keep at least 6 of them. My breeding experience with them is in this thread.

If you have the original "Green Barb", Barbus semifasciolatus, this is a larger fish best kept in groups of at least 4 fish. They won't spawn until they are about 3"/75mm. The same procedure can be used, but they are even more fussy with water quality. The males develop a pinky/red colouration over the lower abdomen when they are ready to spawn - don't confuse that with blood spots which the fish show readily in poor conditions. The fry are small. If you have these, then I would consider you lucky! I haven't seen any for years - used to be common.
