What is the smallest size tank/bowl that you can put a female betta into a male betta tank to breed in? My fish had already made a bubble nest in his 1/2 gallon tank. Is this adequate? if not, what size tank/bowl do i need to put them in? Is there any special needs? Thankyou for any responses.

At least a 10 gallon. And if your still calling them a "Fighting Fish" I think you need to do alot more research on what your are getting yourself into when breeding bettas.
yo, chill with the attitude, lots of people "still" call them fighting fish. i do agree with doing more research since it's a hell of a lot more work breeding bettas than you might think. check out the pinned topics at the top, wuv has a great post all about it.
peace, out.

If you don't already know the answers to your questions, Videl, you haven't done enough research to even be thinking about breeding bettas. :sly:

Well they are fighting fish and in Thai Land and Vitename, you can gamble them for money. Also I have a few 5 star babies bettas (Got it from a friend), but if you want to breed them, well a 10 gallon should do fine, make sure you have a good heater.

a lot of Brits and Aussies call them "fighting fish". its a no more accurate name than "bettas", which is only their genus not their species.

but just because a male blows a bubble nest doesn't mean he has to be bred. males will blow bubblenests for any number of reasons in all sorts of containers. i've temporarily got a male in a small vase and he blows bubblenests all the time. but he is in no condition whatsoever to breed nor in an appropriate environment.

i personally advocate NOT breeding any betta for which you do not have a pedigree. the market is already flooded with veiltails of uncertain heritage; lets not contribute to their overabundance.

Exactly.

If I were you, Videl, I would spend at least two months researching everything I possibly could about bettas, their breeding habits, and raising fry. Once you know how it is done and all the work that is involved, chances are you'll change your mind about breeding... but if you don't, then by all means, go for it if you find a nice breeding pair and have enough money to fund the project! I have a spawn right now and let me tell you... doing 75% water changes every day is no fun. Neither is spending all my money on containers for the males, hatching brine shrimp for them to eat, or hearing my parents complain about all the time I spend on them . It's worth it to see the babies growing up healthy and happy though

i still call them fighting fish if i'm talking to people apart from you guys, otherwise if i say betta they look at me like i just kicked them
LOL same, my friends refer to them as 'Siameses'..... -_-

I agree... breeding is hard work and many seasoned keepers won't even breed their bettas. I think you should research way more and poke around breeding sites a bit more, then check back here. :)
