Most smaller Danios scatter many eggs almost constantly but they get eaten almost as soon as they are produced, some escape, but those that hatch don't last long either.

Often if you have a shoal of,say, Zebras in a tnak, if you keep the result of your gravel cleaning in a heated bucket, fry appear after a few days. Similaly, just taking all the fish out of the tank will allow any eggs that escaped to hatch.

What kind od Danios, and how are you trying to breed them?

hi we've got zebras & leopard danios & our females are always spawning - how do we know????
well you see them flying at a million miles an hour down around the bottom of the tank with a male/males in hot pursuit - followed very closely by our tiger barbs as they go mad munching on the eggs!!!
thanks for the tip about putting gravel vac stuff in a heated bucket lateral, we'd love some of our eggs to survive so will definitely try that. :)

Taken from my Danio profiles in the fish index :) ;

Danios are prolific and very easy to breed. Males are slimmer and more intense in colouration than females. Pairs can often be used but most prefer them to shoal spawn. Set-up your breeding tank with Java moss or other suitable substances on the bottom so the fishes can scatter their eggs, but cannot eat them as no parental care is practised. As with barbs ensure they have a good supply of small live foods, starting with infusoria and newly hatched brine shrimp. Make sure the breeding tank is covered as the fishes can be so active that they leap from the water.
