Hi,Anyone got any good tips on breeding corydoras sterbai, i am currently trying to get them to breed in a 48+15+12 bare tank with java fern on wood. i have the jeater o 80 and am going to change 10 percent with cold tap water?? Does this sound correct

Guns,

How old are they? What size are they? How many males/females do you have? What are your water parameters?

Erik

About 1 inch big
3 females 2 males i think, males being the smaller ones.
Could be 4 females and 1 male(only 1 looks really small compared to others)
ph 7.6
gh 10
This is probably why they havent bread yet, will try water change with pure ro water??
Hopefully this will sort it
Thanks
Dean

I haven't bred Sterbai yet, but from what I have read most all corys breed the same way and I breed mine in a PH of 7.6 with a GH of 120 (moderately hard).

A good temp drop and come back up will normally be a good start, also feed them on Frozen/freeze dried foods helps.

I'm no expert, but I think they are way to small and probably to young to be breeding yet. Mine are at least 2 1/2 inches in length and just started spawning a couple of months ago. You will also want to have more than one male.

Hi guns,

Erik is right; your corys are just too young to spawn.

Sterbai are big, hefty corys and there with mine there is little difference in size between the males and females. While they are young, it's hard to tell them apart, but if you think you only have one male to four females, I suggest that you buy some more in hopes of getting males. Two males per female at a spawning is usually suggested to have good fertilization of all the eggs.

This does not necessarily mean that you need twice as many males as females overall. It just means that when they spawn, you should have more males than the number of females that are actually laying eggs. However, since they are schooling fish and several females might be spawning at the same time, it would be best to get a few more males.

Sterbai are not the easiest corys to get to spawn. Some experienced breeders have had trouble with them, and mine are not predictable either. This does not, by any means, mean that they are impossible to breed, just a little harder than others such as peppered corys or bronze or albino C. aeneus. :D
