Hi,

I have a pair of common clowns that have been living together for three years + now in their comfy protection of my Anemone a over a year ago the clowns were breeding and laying eggs approx. a 50-100 eggs at a time covering the base of my internal filter. This went of for a couple of months then they all of a sudden stopped and low and behold this weekend they have started again.

The eggs are there for seven days or so while they mature and you can see the black dot of the baby fish forming and the clowns tentivaly care for them. Then after the seven days in one night the whole lot disappear `never to be seen again'

They have been laid on the front glass of my tank under the mantle of the Anemone which would make them near impossible to move them with out damaging them, plus i think my clowns might have something to say about it to as they defend them well.

Will attach a photo of the eggs if i can get a good enough piccy!

Now i think it would be cool to breed them but don't know the best way to do this? can any one help!!!!

And here you have stumbled on one of the most difficult aspects of breeding clowns (aside from rearing all the phytoplankton and rotifers to feed the fry while keeping chemistry right). My only suggestion is to read a lot and scour the internet for stories of clownfish rearing. And if you really end up being serious about doing it, get yourself the book Clownfishes by Joyce Wilkerson as it's pretty much the bible on the subject

Cheers, sound like a lot of work but ultimatly but could be very rewarding and an great acheivement.

I will look into this further as see what happens, i would rather them survive and grow rather than fish food for the night.
