Hey... I've been planing for awhile to start a growing 10 gallon tank for my HC and Riccia in the tank i wannted cherry shrimp and 1 betta
I want to breed my cherries b/c i want them to be allover the tank i want the max amount of shrimp in my tank that i can get
how do i do this
how many shrimp do i buy to start getting them to breed
are they easy to breed
how many babies will i end up with
P.S i'm going to use one of those carbon filter that are powerd by an airpump

You don't need many, just few females and males. Fecundation is possible just when female has molted and is still soft. I'm pertty sure thought that betta will eat every shrimplet it will see. So I hope you have loads of plants and hiding places. Betta might try to eat adults aswell since they look delicious because of their color.

First I would take the betta out, because like thapsus said above, those shrimps can look pretty yummy to them. If you were trying to breed, I think it would be best to just not have any fish in there in general, because most fish will eat the babies.

I found this article useful when I started breeding them:

Also, make sure the carbon filter you use is covered with some kind of mesh (maybe piece of nylon?) because the babies can still get sucked up through those carbon filters. I recommend sponge filters (certain ones), plus they are a lot better for growing beneficial bacteria which helps to keep ammonia, nitrates/nitrites down and cherry shrimp can be sensitive to that. Some sponge filters can be coarse, though, and might suck up your babies.

All you need really is a bunch o shrimp and hope there is at least one female and one male (males are less colorful than the females in general). FYI-I did not know this, but apparently, certain shrimp can cross-breed, so if you're trying to keep your tank just cherry reds, don't put any other shrimp species in there that might cross breed with them.

Hope this helps!
