I wondered a couple of things. First, has anyone ever had success breeding bluegill? Second, what sort of market would there be for this sort of fish in tanks for internet sale, etc? Having them in my tank for the past month, I'm amazed more people haven't had them. They appear to be very hardy fish, seem intelligent, and are actually quite colorful if you get the pumpkinseed kind. Anyway, I was just curious and wanted to get some guidance before I would look into this venture further. It'd be nice to know the problems I'd run into or if it would even work at all.

I've seen them breed in the creek, I'm not sure which sex it is but one of the adults has a sort of rock nest and guards it like a lot of other cichlids do. It's cool looking, but I dunno how to sex them. :dunno:

Man, seeing them breeding in the wild would you be a treat, you must have spent a lot of time doing it.

I'm just a woodsbaby, spent most of my kid-dom at the creek or in the woods. :)

I just love to watch them off the banks at shallow areas of local creeks and ponds, you can see the nests because for some reason they are a lighter color of stone then the surrounding area, I don't know if the parents move them there or what, but it was something I noticed, and the parent hovers around a certain area attacking anything that swims into the spot, and checking on the eggs. It is very cool though... :D

Or seining. It's amazing what two kids and a rammy oversized golden retriever can scare into a net...

They make a nest and protect it. I've learned this from fishing. They do this in the spring so slight temperature rises, mosquito larvea, etc. might trigger this.
