Breeding Black Ruby Barbs Discussion

hi i've been trying to breed my black ruby barbs for a few months now and i've attempted a couple of spawning but with no success. I have the males and females separated and been conditioning with brine shrimp and tetra pro vegetable the males are 5cm and the females are 4cm.
any tips and hints
what i wanted to discus was wether the size of the 3rd stripe grew in width the more fully bellied they are if any one else has notice this.
