I really would like to breed my bettas but I'm not sure what to do. I just purchased a new 10 gallon tank for breeding and am letting it cycle. What should I add to the tank (plants, rocks ect?) Should I introduce the male and the female to the tank at the same time, or add one then wait a day or 2 to add the second one? Any advice, instructions would be nice. I really want to do this but I heard that bettas are very hard to breed.

Add the boy first and let him get the lay of the land, have you an area where he can bubble nest (well away from any water movement) ?

What sort of filter are you using, sponge, mechanical ?

I use a polystyrene cup cut in half.

Then when he has been in there a day I put the girl in (inside a clear cup or some such) so that they can size each other up.

There should be some more detailed info on the site about breeding check it out before you even start.
