So i'm going to try and breed my amanos , after seeing how expensive they are at all the lfs , i want to introduce some cheaper ones to the market and let others have a chance of owning these great shrimp

Equiptment

14 ltr and 21 ltr tanks for growing on
4 ltr goldfish bowl
cycled air driven filter
marine/sea salt
salinity meter
4 berried amanos

have been told sometimes these foods work - remember my first time so all trial and error
spirulina,algae and seaweed dust
ant eggs
liqui fry

Have set the tank up today , installed the filter , added a bit of gravel just to hold micro organisms for the larvae to feed off of , 2 bits of indian almond leaves (was mentioned on one of the many breeding sites) and have just managed to catch and transfer one of the berried amanos

Wish me luck

Good luck :good: I would also get some elodea and leave it free floating in the tank with a few bits quite finely chopped as it will prmote infusoria development which I have heard is good juvie shrimp food. It should be available at your lfs or I could rustle a little bit up for you and you just pay postage costs.

When the ladies have hatched all their eggs and the larvae are free swimming and i remove the ladies
i'm leaving it 24 hours then will be adding the salt

with all the information i have read on breeding them - there is differing suggestions for the amount of salt - salinity of the water
from what i've read

salinity
17 then 25 - 97% loses in first 3 weeks and slow growth rate
32-35 - no significant loses and fast growth rate -

basically UNDER 30ppt - unsuccessful , over 30ppt -35 ppt successful

So i'm going to try the gradual increase to 35 ppt
temp over 22-26 degrees
going to try with the filter this time and if unsuccessful try without the filter but small air stone next time

have purchased some brewers yeast for a first food to add to what i already have as this is meant to be good for them
and got some Infosuria cultures started aswell

Thats my plan
will keep you all informed

30-60 days down the line they should turn into shrimplets
i have another tank set up that i will match the salinity in and move over the shrimplets into that one to reduce the salt levels back to normal so that any larvae that havent transformed dont die

what a lot of work am cyccling 2 more little filters for the 14ltr and 21 ltr grow on tanks that will be needed later if i am successful

UPDATE - females still berried so still waiting for the fun to start lol

by the way pipoodle - some good news! remeber the frogbit you sent that didnt survive the trip over here? id tipped the nasty sludge into my drainpipe here on the balcony to dispose of it (how many weeks ago was it?) anyhow we've had lots of rain and the drainpipe has been clogged up, unclogged it this weekend just gone, guess what i found in there...two little frogbit plants!!! god knows how they grew or survived but hey ho i ended up with two survivers! and they are growing fast!
