There are several species of freshwater puffer that will spawn in a tank such as carinotetraodon lorteti and tetraodon cutcutia but the difficulty is in raising the delicate fry which rarely survive.
Dwarf puffers are now bred commercially for the pet trade, and there is some limited success in home breeding them.
My female T lorteti spawned with her male 3x, before she killed him. As the adults weren't much over 1.5", I couldn't tell if there were fry, or just dust specks in the tank. I continued to feed Liquifry, just in case, but never got any baby puffers. The spawning act was interesting though...
