Breaking Xenentodon cancila from live food?

Hello, I have a Xenentodon cancila and am currently feeding it Guppies.

I'd really like to get away from live foods if I can, and I've heard of people breaking them to dead foods and even pellets.

Does anyone have experience with this or a success story to share? What worked and what didn't?

Getting pure piscavors like needle fish off of live fish is almost impossible as if it doesnt move they generally dont recognise it as food.
I did have success in getting my needle fish to take live river shrimp and live crickets but i could never get them to take frozen foods of any kind.
