How do you determine the gender of fish?



I have....

neon tetras...

white tetras....

columbian tetras....

and a chinese algae eater...

Look under there stumoch near there bum if they hav like a thin piece of skin that sticks out well obviosly that is a male n a fame you cant tell its just not got a penis.

In Tetras, the females tend to be bigger and plumper but that's by no means true of all of them and sometimes it's just plain impossible to tell. The Algae Eater, I don't know.

Yes,as far as the neon goes the female is supposed to be rounder .
As far as the white skirt tetra goes the female is larger and rounder
I had Columbian tetra and never could tell which was male or female
The Cae is another one which is impossible to tell.I think that ,by and large the male and female are equally aggressive(note I said by and large--for all the Cae lovers!)

Generally, egglayers females tend to be a little larger, sometimes a lot, less colourful, and noticeably deeper in the body viewed from the side, and wider viewed from above or the front. With some species, there are other variations which are more obvious.

Neons, just look at the blue line they have, If its straight, its a male, if its bent, then its a female. Sorry, thats all I know about.
