Bottom Feeders?

I have a six gallon tank with three neons and three black neons. I am badly in need of a bottom feeder that will fit in with the "community" because the neons won't eat the food that touches the bottom...so picky

any help would be appreciated

Normally I'd say a corydoras catfish, but they do best in groups of 3 and you're already pretty full stocked up There's really not much room for more bioload in your tank right now

really??? your fish won't eat food that has touched the bottom?

My neons even go after the sinking pellets and try to take them from my cories!

Skunk loaches, they do better in pair, but they dont get very big ( 2in is the norm) or make to much waste

Zebra loaches (Botia striata) and Polka dot loaches (Botia ''angelicus'') would also be a good choice as they also don't get too big, but get at least a pair.

you are pretty much stocked. If your parameters are fine then the only bottom feeders for a 6 gal that i could recommend would be a pair of small cories such as panda or pygmy. But you will have to carefully monitor your parameters and also step up the frequency of water changes. HTH

You are pretty well stocked for the size tank you have. Cory cats are an excellent choice, but you do not have enough room for more than one. Unfortunately, corys are schooling fish and should not be kept by themselves. If your tank is not filtered and heated, please do not even consider them.

You should also realize that it's better to feed less than to depend on a fish to clean the bottom. Even cory cats need to be fed their own diet and will not live very long if they have to live on leftovers.

well thanks for the advice everyone. as of now i think i'll wait and see what happens before i buy any new fish because i'm having a little problem with high levels of nitrate and nitrite.

couldn't you just clean your gravel more often? if tehre's waste food rotting at the bottom of the tank that could be what's affecting your water quality I think...might be wrong though.

I agree with corydoras. They're the most friendliest cats around!
