The question is - do they eat snails? I bought 2 at the weekend as I have a snail infestation in a tank but I am still squishing snails on the side for my angel to pounce on. How long before I could reasonably expect to see a dent in the population?

They are lovely fish too.
Thanks

It usually takes any newly purchased fish a few days at least to calm down. They will start to eat the snails when they feel right. How long it takes to dent the population depends on the population size of course!

2 is a very small "group". Botias are social fish and like the presence of their own kind.

I am planning on getting 2 more and they are all to be accommodated in another larger tank which is currently cycling. But I got a couple a bit early as the snails in my other tank are doing my nut!! So I hoped they would munch on them and then move over. They seem to have settled in well and have become the bosses of the bottom level, much to the disgust of my clown plec :) All are doing well so far.

The loach your talking about will eat snails, but it will take them longer than the pig of the loach world (The Clown Loach)
