My betta has a new 5gal home he was housed next to my 20 gal w/tigers and gouramis
He spent most of the day staring and flaring at them, but now that he has his new home
he is away from the 20 gal.

is it true that they can live w/corie fish? My fish is kinda agressive but he looks so sad sitting at the bottom of his tank facing the direction of the 20 gal tank (well where the 20 gal used to be) sometimes i see him staring at me (like now) while i'm typing on the computer and he looks so bored
:(

Well I am not sure if your Betta will do what mine is doing, but I have two guppies and three neons in with him and he loves his new roomies. He was all alone and didn't swim much. Now, he swims all of the time!!!!

I just put a mirror near his tank, and he seems to like it!

:)
typical of a pretty male..........loves to look at himself!!!! LOL guys, just kidding!  :p :D :D

its so funny he is having a stand off with HIMSELF LOL :D

I suppose this solution is better than a beat up corie fish!

Was he in with other fish before? Of course all betta's are different, but I would try it if I were you. I like to think that betta's are social fish that like company. Just make sure you have a back-up plan...keep an eye on them for the first week or so, but they should do fine.

Tiff

nope, he has been alone all his life--- 6mos
I tried my peacefull cherry barbs - they lasted 3min before I had to take them out. He chased them aroung the tank :(
I guess he will have to live w/his reflection.
And the way he is flaring at his relection, I don't think HE is going to last long LOL

Awwww.... You should put him back next to his neighbors....

Hi,

I've got my male Betta in with 3 Zebra Danios.
He chased them around a bit for the first few miniutes or so,
and does so every now and again. But, now he pretty-much leaves them alone.

As stated earlier, a mirror will really make his day.
Try putting one next to his tank for a half-hour or so and watch him flare! :)

Yeah he loves the mirror.
Some people get really luck w/ betta in community tanks, but nooooooooo not my little tough guy
:D
PS Itty Bitty:
I upgraded to a 20gal so I needed to put the new tank on a stand. Before the betta and my 10gal was on my dresser.
Hopefully when I move into my own place ( I live at home, so I've been stuck with one room for my tanks) I will have them both on stands next to one another. Plus more room to use my spare 15gal again (it would be a sin to waste a good tank) LOL.

But until then......, :/

I feel soo bad: My betta isn't mean.

I put my betta in my community tank (not to leave him, but to see if he would attack.
No he did not attack anyone. Not even My Gouramis...although my barbs did start to swarm (they were like a little albino barb gang!!)around my poor little Elvis.
When I saw that and him trying to hide in the plants, I got his cute little fins out of the tank. (no physical harm was done to my pretty betta)

.....Elvis is not speaking to me at the moment  The first thing he did to me when I put him back in his tank was Flare at me and sit at the bottom of his tank as if asking...."why mommy? why did you do that to me" Guess who is getting extra shrimp for his snack!!

But I know know its safe to add a few Danios and if not they can go in my 20 gal.
If it were not for those mean Barbs (and it was not even my tiger barbs it was my sweet little (I mean little) albino barbs.....little stinkers.

Oddly enough my Gouramis LOVED my betta, but they are too big for Elvis's tank.

aww isnt that sad, Elvis will be fine with some danios, and my gouramis love my little betta, they're buddies! I'm sure Elvis will be very happy when you get his new friends!! :D
