This is on my boyfriends side not in my tank lol. But he really wanted me to ask you lot.

He has a huge tank and most of the fish in there is Catfish (A sub sepies of Syno) He has about 6 different size ones. Had them for about 1-2 years without any problems. Then we have noticed a really fat one. Could she be carrying live young or eggs? She is really bolloon like around the lower belly (Anal area) We dont know how to sex the catfish so this might be a start. I dont belive she is over feed because they all get the same. And none of the other catfish is the same. Also she isnt finding it hard to swim atall and the other catfish keep casing her and trying to bash into her stomach by the seems of things.

Sorry I cannot get a pic there is too much room within the tank and she is doing her best to find from us only coming out to feed every now and again

in most catfish species and especially synodontis the female is naturally alot "fatter" than the males, by a considerable amount in some species, the point im getting to is that if it was an egg carrying female (no catfish to my knowledge are livebearers) then you probably would not see a massive difference in size, and would not in most circumstances cause the fish to have problems moving/swimming. I personally am no expert in fish diseases but it may be some form of internal bacterial/parasitic disease so somebody mose experienced on that side of things should help you. Dont get worried, it may be natural or mabe a bloating problem so i would reserve propper judgement until you hear off someone else!

the catfish isnt fully grown yet so hard to tell if male or female. Also she is the shinny so i think it would be hard to tell if it was normal or not. I must admit she is fatter on one side of her belly. I will be able to get pic later on tonight if that help ? will she be alright ?

i would love to say 'yes it wil be ok' but that would be a bit of wishful thinking! It does sound abnormal, being just on one side though, yes a pic will help if you can get one making the swollen part visible!

i would personally say that there is something not right there.
I would suggest posting the picture and a brief explaination in the emergency section. More people who know about diseases and like will see it there!
