Hi All

How do you prep bogwood for your aquarium?

Ta

to get rid of the tanins i got mine in the bath as its too big to go in a bucket, so i got it in the bath sitting in hot water, i have changed the water every 12 hours, im just over 48 hours and its still releasin tanins, although not as much as it did in the first 12 hours. i have heard if you can fit the wood in a large pot you can boil it.

Ohh a long process. How do you know when it ids ready to put in a tank? I tank it LFS bogwood's do not come 'already' prepped lol

im no expert but just by reading what i have, it can take a week to couple of months, i got mopani wood from a LFS and as my post above says 48 hours in, it is still leaking. Again i think it depends on the wood and i have also read the wood will always leak some tanins but not enough, that it will make your tank look like a cup of tea.

someone with some more knowledge may be able to give you better advice than me as im on my first ever bit of bogwood.

hey also you might find it will float so put a rock ontop until it has soaked with water so it will not float anymore ive left wood for over a week good way to tell is by using a transparent container and when changing the water look at the colour and if its clear enough then its ready
