I have just soaked my bogwood for a week in a bucket before putting it in my newly setup tank, but the dye from the bogwood is still coming out a little, how long on average does it take for the dye to come out?

It can take months for the tannins to stop staining the water, your best bet is to use carbon in the filter to remove it if its not to your liking. The fish probably wont mind.
I usually scrub bogwood with a wire brush in a bucket and rinse under a tap after soaking it.

Weeks, its hard to be exact, soaking for 2 weeks will remove most of the tannins. these tannins are not harmful to the fish indeed if you keep amazonian fish the brown water can look very realistic.

also what will this do to thr trillions of live plants iv got in there, as they depend on the light i find it hard to belive they could survive in murky water.... as i think most ppl know its harder for light to penitrate murky depths :(

god sake is nothin in tank keeping easy?! :-(

precisely!!! fish keepers always haveproblems, thats what keeps us going, (and keeps this forum popular!!!)

I had the same problem i boiled the bog wood 3 times and put it in and the water was yellow for about 2 months after a while when i cleaned the tank the color went away !
