Bogwood - Replace Over Time?

Perhaps a silly question but given plecs rasp on bogwood, does it need to be replaced after a while? I think I have a piece about six years old and the matter just occurred to me...

Or do they merely consume bacteria that grows on the bogwood?

they do actually eat some of the wood yes, its a bit of fibre for them.. although im not a plec expert. ive considered replacing merely because mine stopped leaking tannins

They do chomp it down alot over time. Ive got about 100 BN fry in a 30G and there favourite bit of wood must have got about 5mm thinner in 6 months. It will take one a long time to get through it though so i wouldnt worry to much/
