Could some one please help me with this very annoying problem. I have a few pieces of bogwood in my 30g tank and the dam stuff wont stop leaching. i have done daily water changes but to no avail.
I have read many times what is causing this (Tanning being released from the wood) and that it is good for the fish and can soften water and lower the ph of the water. But i have not read any ware how to stop it
Please help me people. I just want clear water.

looking foreword to your replies. hopefully someone can help me.

I had this exact same problem in a 23L tank recently.
2 Massive pieces of bogwood would not stop leaching tannins.

Water changes do work, but only temp.
Carbon removes tannins easily.
Seachem purigen is the only thing that really made a dent for me, but that's because my water was basically just tannins after a few days.

My bogwood is leeching as well but i like the look of it, As long as it dosent affect the fish or water chemestry to much i don't mind it.

chears for the reply
Is Seachem purigen safe to use then. dont want to over complicate things by putting something hazordous to the fish in the tank.
have just removed some of the larger lumps of bogwood and am planing on boiling them and leaving them to soak over night.

Think you are supposed to boil and soak it for several days first but, failing that, I think putting carbon in your filter helps remove it too.

I had the same problem i just dumed some active carbon in my filter Hour later problem solved cleared the tank up a treat.
I have a Fluval u3 filter should i get the Fluval carbon.

Dont know what to tell you there my friend as i use a Fluval 205 and dont know that filter at all and how it is put together etc you will have to wait for someone in the know there. But as far as i know you will need carbon sponge.

This one I think. It just slots in alongside your sponge pad.

The filter has foam pads then Poly/carbon cartridges and then a Biomax chamber - guessing i could pop the Active carbon in fine mesh bad and pop it in the Biomax chamber. loads of room in there for it i think.
of to the shops tomorrow then for some active carbon.
