Hi all My plants and bogwood was delivered today yeah so excited. However i now have the 4 pieces 3 small 1 large soaking in hot water in a tub in my bath. I planted my amazon swords, twisted vallis, and some others in the tank after washing & soaking in declorinated water.

I now have 10 java fern, large clump of flame moss and some tall hair grass floating in my Q/T. How long will i have to soak the bogwood for? how long can these plants survive being without filter and being in the main tank. I cant remove my Q/F atm to put into other tank.

Also my partner brought me some super glu but its the gel version, it says not suitable for consistent water service so meaning being submerged i suppose. Will this be ok to use untill plants root onto it. or should i get simple plain super glu.

Thnaks

I soaked my bogwood for about 4 days and it still leached into the water some people recommend weeks and the shop i got it from told me 24hrs so i'm not 100% sure, i personally wouldnt use anything like superglue in my tank for fear of it polluting the water i used cable ties on my java ferns which i snipped when plants rooted and fishing line for my moss.

The instructions that came with my bogwood heh, said soak it for over a month. I soaked it over night to let the loose pieces flake off and then placed it in my tank ready to be cycled, turned the heat up and watched it leech!

Every 5 days or so initially for the first month the tannins became a bit eye soarish and then after the cycle finished etc it then progressed and now On my weekly water change I haven't noticed a difference at all 2/3 months down the line in water discolouration, however the pH does noticeably drop from 7.6 to ~7 in a week.

Thanks so pretty much when i like then as long as i dont mind the tea bag colour lol. I have 3 danios in my tank will they mind about the ph drop or will it be gradual enough for them. The seller said they were pre soaked for 1 month. Ive had them in hot water, would boiling in a big pot on the cooker for 5 hours help any.

Anyone that could anwser about the java and moss surviving untill this is done would help. thanks again

Boiling would help but I think your wallet would be better if you only had it simmering, I can't begin to imagine how much gas/electricity it would use to keep it actually boiling for that long.

Its up to you, if you put it into the tank straight away you can sure expect it to leech, I would suggest putting it in a bucket of warm water/hot water for a few hours to soak and flake the little bits off.

Your danios shouldn't be bothered by the pH shift because it is gradual after all. However keep an eye on your pH and and keep and eye on your tap pH. changing 50% of the water having 6.8 tank water but say 7.8 tap water can be quite a change. Ideally in my opinion I think you should do more frequent water changes whilst the bogwood is effecting your pH.

For me I did it every 3-5 days after the cycle completed and then 5 days for a month or so and now it seems relatively stable at a weekly change of 50%.
