just brefily if you boil it first teh tannins come out faster, it won't harm the fish and can in some cases be benifcail

I heard you can also use carbon pads to clear the water I have polyester ones in, and the water is quite clear. but it is just colouration sometimes it looks more authentique if it's not too heavy.

I soaked mine for 2 days before I put it in.

yeah soaking works to but boiling works faster
