evening all, just a quickie, went to lfs yesterday and got a couple of pieces of bog wood (1 for 10G, and 1 for 25G), anyway got home and put in a bucket with boiling water as recommended by lfs to stop them floating,(18.15pm), then today (15.30pm) took them out and gave them a rinse with some used tank water as i had just done a water change, put the bog wood in the tanks and just noticed that both tanks have got a slight brown tint to them now, so i guess this is of the bog wood. what i want to know is this harmful ? and how long will it take for the woodc to stop dyeing my tank water ?

thanks in advance

No it's not harmful, and the black carbon should remove it.

Exactly as Wilder stated its harmless, its releasing tanins into the water and for some fish its a bonus as its emulating a more natural habitat.

It takes ages to get rid of the yellow/ brown tinge!!!

I boiled mine for 2 hours in a wok and it still releases now... It gets better. The carbon is a VERY good idea. Try and put it in the filter or in the filter stream.

Some of us love stained water and actually work to keep that look. It is a natural and beneficial environment for many fish.

I've had bogwood for almost 4.5 years now and my water is still a great yellowish shade when I do my weekly water changes. I was very disturbed for a few monthes, and had started doing daily water changes until I was told what was happening.
