They love their tank and have some tetra for company amoungst other things. I was wondering if a pair of blue rams would be compatible with them?

Mine haven't bred yet, although if they have the tetra have probably eaten the eggs! The male is always showing off to his harem though and takes them in the plants all the time

Beautiful rainbows. :hyper: Do they breed?

Yes they do becase if they diddent they would die out. Very easy in hard water, seperate a male and female off in a new tank after conditioning with good foods then add a few spawning mops.

Attractive tank. They would be fine with Blue Rams as tankmates, but as Rainbows like hard alkaline water, and Rams like the opposite the Rams may well die if you keep them in hard tapwater.

Firstly, sorry I put this in the wrong section originally...just saw them listed on one of the pinned oddball threads!

Secondly, the rams aren't going to happen atm as I just got some gourami for another tank.
It's good news to me that the rainbows spawn in hard water! Suits my London water perfectly. I'll have to do some reading up on their requirements for breeding :D

Tiz a good reason to get a new tank to try my hand at Rams tho

They dont require much preperation, a small tank of 45x25x25 will do a pair to breed ok. They will eat the eggs mind, so be on hand to remove the parents back to their old tank and start rasing the young up. You could then put them in with the parents and have a big shoal of them, I think they look far better in a shoal of 12 than 4.
