Hi,

Right I've just be looking at PC.com in their BN section trying to identify my male BN.

is there a website with better descriptions, such as dorsal ray differences etc?

I've seen about two which I think could be the species, but I just wanted to be sure. As I maybe be selling him, along with my USP cats to make room for a snakehead or some other odd ball fish :D

I know this isn't what you want to hear probably, but apparently it's nigh on impossible to do a definitive ID on a BN without knowing the collection point if wild caught. If they're tank bred, they tend to be ancistrus sp. 3 which varies greatly in appearance. Second most common species found as babies in LFS are ancistrus triradiatus. Mine is neither I don't think, although he was bought as a baby. Still can't get an ID on him.

mine look very similar to Ancistrus claro, and seems to have stopped growing at about 2.5-3" after the grow spurt it had when I first got him.

Oooo lovely. Yep that's one we wondered about with ours, but he's a different shape. Would love to see pics?

I would post some pics, if it didnt hide so much :D plus cant push it out of hiding coz it has MASSIVE spines on its cheeks which hurt  /me rubs fingers...

I didnt realise they had them until I move him to his new tank lol

LMAO yeah ours is a right fiesty devil - he flings himself at the glass with those spikes out if we go near

mine isn't that bad, it just gets annoyed when I put my hand near it. soends most the time hiding :)
