I have an Albino and a Brown Pleco, with the albino about 2.5" and has formed a lot of bristles. The brown plex is roughly 2" and has not visible bristles.

Should I take it that my brown plec is a female or has he/she still got time to develope?

Also, I've noticed that on the brown plec, in the morning, he/she has a pale line on her back. going across from fin to fin. Is that a stress line? It disappears as soon as food is introduced or the light is switched on.

I expect it is a female if it hasn't got any bristles. You cant be 100% sure until it is a bit bigger though.

As for the pale line. My female bn changes colour quite alot, I wouldn't be too worried if i were you

I agree... don't worry. I beleive that it is a female, but you never know. Give it 6 or so more months, and i would think it's a female. BN oftin change colour, and one of my boys has quite the same line that you just discribed, he's fine :good:
