so recently i have re-arranged my tank a bit. after i had finished i noticed for at least 2 days that my bn plec would be sucking on to the top of my heater literally at the top of the water level, didnt really see it move anywhere else. today i haven't seen it at all, and it usually shows throughout the days, so i thought it was bit odd that i havent seen it all day, i searched the whole tank from every angle cant seem to see it anywhere, a bit worried he may have died :(

do you have any caves he can hide in? may be worth lifting stuff up, also do you have an internal filter i know my angels love to sleep behind that they just squeeze worrys me if they get stuck there but they never do :) and worst case scenario if he can fit in the filter inlet? hope he will be okay I'm not familiar with plec but do they dig or even can they jump out of the tank?

i have a piece of wood and a few rocks, not seen him anywhere near them though i've checked the filter cus he goes there sometimes but couldnt see him :( not all that familiar with them myself but i wanted to learn more about them so i brought one, as far as i know they dig around, well mine hasn't been doing any ways just rests on the substrate surface or on plant leaves or the rocks etc. and i dont think they jump, but it was a bit unusual to see him near the top of the tank i thought that he was maybe planning an escape and trying to jump out haha i guess he'll turn up some time if not then god knows what i'll do !

He may well have died and been eaten but more likely you just can't see him. I have a BN catfish and he is expert at 'being' a piece of wood. Just this evening I was cleaning out the tank and doing a water change and one moment he was there, I moved the wood he was attached to, he moved, I put the wood back and haven't seen him since -- no, I didn't bury him under the wood, I looked. Tomorrow he will turn up as he always has done; where he has been in the meantime? God only knows, perhaps there is a secret BN catfish dimension that they escape to and only come back for food and fun.

I had a similar experience, mine is gone and the only reason I can put it down too is that it was in or on some Bogwood when I removed it from the tank for tank maintenance. so lesson learnt for me I always double check now.

I had one jump out of a small gap in the back of the tank. It was a tank on top of my rack. It fell about 5 ft. I found it under the rack the next day all dried up.

haha 'shinysideup' :) they are pretty good with their camo' clever little things, i did a bit of maintenance on my tank today and i was scared incase i accidentally buried him in the sand or something :( last time i seen him he was hanging around at the top back of the tank where there is a small gap he could have possibly been planning to escape through, or unless the gap at the back of the tank is the portal to the pleco dimension :) haha

if true i wish i was a BN catfish :good:

I've got an upside-down catfish that I literately can go for weeks on end without seeing, lift things up, he'll be in there somewhere.

...and this morning, there he was. I'm going to call him Heisenberg as it is impossible to know both his momentum and his position at the same time!

finally found my bn, but he has died :( i was looking through the side of my tank and noticed his body quite well hidden within a bunch of plants, not quite sure why he died, i dont know whats going on in my tank but in the past lets say 2 weeks i've lost a platy a harlequin and now my BN :( maybe when i re-arranged the tank it was too much stress for them :( hmm
